The Vision

Kevin O'Reilly is the visionary behind the creation of Satin Ice rolled fondant. As a boy, Kevin worked and spent a great deal of time at his family bakery business in Dublin, Ireland. His experience prompted him to pursue a career doing what he loved and after graduating with a Food Science degree from the Dublin College of Technology, he moved to America. For nearly ten years, he worked in the baking industry in New York City, selling specialty ingredients to fine bakers. It was during these years that Kevin became aware of rolled fondant as an emerging trend and unusual alternative to traditional buttercream bakery frosting and he was intrigued with its artistic possibilities for cake designers. Despite its appeal, available fondant products had many detracting qualities that thwarted wide-reaching acceptance by the industry. Users complained about its dry, brittle qualities that resulted in cracks in their final pieces. Chief among the complaints was taste and texture. Many found that rolled fondant was chewy and tasteless. All of these indications gave Kevin the idea that there must be a way to create a better rolled fondant that customers would love . . . and he was determined to create it.
The Formula and the Secret Blending Process
The trials and tribulations of blending, testing and sampling gave birth to a new product that has enjoyed overwhelming success: Satin Ice Rolled Fondant. Now bakers and cake designers were able to roll the fondant paper-thin to mimic fabric, drapes and bows or to create realistic flower shapes of all kinds. Kevin seemed to have finally created the recipe that so many had longed for.
A list of high quality ingredients was developed first, in order to formulate a creamy, mellow and sweet flavor. Next, a series of different mixing techniques were tirelessly tested and perfected. Finally, the recipe and the trademarked mixing secrets were completed, with the final product requiring three separate mixing processes to get that wonderful consistency that no other manufacturer can offer.

To simplify the cake designing process, Satin Ice has created and packaged a multitude of pre-mixed colors. Satin offers an exclusive color guide. Custom-made for our professional users, color-mix proportions are revealed to create every color and hue in the rainbow. As an added feature, the colors can also be easily marbled for a striking effect. With zero grams of trans fat and no cholesterol, all Satin Ice products are Kosher as well, providing access to an even broader market. With costs well below that of dairy products used in buttercream blends, the profit margin has exploded for bakeries offering specialty cake products using Satin Ice.
